In those days John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea.
It was of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he said: "A voice of
one crying out in the desert, 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight
his paths.'"
At that time Jerusalem, all Judea, and the whole region around the Jordan
were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River
as they acknowledged their sins.
I am baptizing you with water, for repentance, but the one who is coming
after me is mightier than I. I am not worthy to carry his sandals.
He will baptize you with the holy Spirit and fire.
Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him.
John tried to prevent him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and yet
you are coming to me?"
Jesus said to him in reply, "Allow it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill
all righteousness." Then he allowed him.
After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the
heavens were opened (for him), and he saw the Spirit of God descending
like a dove (and) coming upon him.
And a voice came from the heavens, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with
whom I am well pleased."

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and
the mother of Jesus was there.
Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.
When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him,
"They have no wine." (And) Jesus said to her, "Woman, how
does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come."
His mother said to the servers, "Do whatever he tells you."
Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish
ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty gallons
Jesus told them, "Fill the jars with water." So they filled them
to the brim.
Then he told them, "Draw some out now and take it to the
headwaiter." So they took it.
And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become
wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers
who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the
bridegroom and said to him, "Everyone serves good wine first,
and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but
you have kept the good wine until now."
Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee
and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in
him.

After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee,
proclaiming the good news of God.
"The time has come," he said."The kingdom of God is near.
Repent and believe the good news!"
As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and
his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were
Fishermen.
"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of
men."
At once they left their nets and followed him.
When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of
Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets.
Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee
in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of
James, and led them up the mountain by themselves.
There He was transfigured before them.
His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the
light.Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with
Jesus.
Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will
put up three shelters one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah."
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I
love;with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!"
When the disciples heard this, they fell face down to the ground, terrified.
But Jesus came and touched them.
"Get up." he said. "Don't be afraid." When they looked up, they saw
no-one except Jesus. As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus
instructed them, "Don't tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of
Man has been raised from the dead."

On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the
disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Where do you want us to
make preparations for you to eat the Passover?"
He replied, "Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, The
Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to
celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.'"
So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared
the Passover.
When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the
Twelve. And while they were eating ,he said, " I tell you the
truth, one of you will betray me. "They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, "Surely not I Lord?
"Jesus replied, "The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. The Son of Man will go just as
it is written about him. but woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! it would be better for him if he had not been
born. "Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, "Surely not I, Rabbi?" Jesus answered, "Yes it is you."
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and
eat; this is my body. "Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. This
is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink of
this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom."
When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
